ETL STAR® stands for Extract, Transform and Load. These new set of tools enable the processing and movement of data from disparate sources. The user simply maps existing information columns into their new home locations. ETL STAR can also be used to interface Retail STAR to almost any other business system in the marketplace today. If you use a separate system to maintain a product catalog (or want to import a vendor’s product sheet), that catalog can be imported into the Retail STAR inventory database easily. As sales are made within the Retail STAR point-of-sale module, a perpetual inventory of the catalog items are debited and the results can just as easily be sent to a separate accounting system.
This eliminates the amount of data entry work required and also makes Retail STAR compatible with industry specific suppliers. If you use a third party eCommerce platform, you can easily move product information from Retail STAR to that platform to populate your web site. As sales are made in your Internet store front, ETL STAR can import the sales information back into Retail STAR to deplete inventory and provide a single and cohesive reporting system. Although ETL STAR is very powerful, it is also very easy to use thanks to its graphical Design Wizard. The Design wizard allows any end user to simply specify data formats (metadata) and save the map for future use. Once these map templates are saved, ETL STAR maintains them within a repository for future and automatic use by Retail STAR. This process allows Retail STAR to seamlessly integrate with almost any other business system on the market today.

Converting Legacy Data
An existing customer using the legacy CAM32® point-of-sale program has decided to upgrade to Retail STAR. As a condition of the upgrade, they need to convert all of their historic data from the CAM32®system and import it into Retail STAR. This conversion includes all inventory information, vendor information, customers and sales history.
To begin the upgrade process, the user starts the ETL STAR program. Existing data maps for the CAM32 system come reloaded with the software so the user simply selects CAM32 from the selection of data maps. Once this is completed, ETL STAR will export the selected information from the CAM32 system and import it into Retail STAR without any further action required by the user.
Internet Store Interface
For bicycle shops that use the Smart Etailing ecommerce platform, datamap has been created to export products for sale from Retail STAR to the SmartEtailing website. ETL STAR is then scheduled to automatically collect sales information from the website and record those sales and customers into the Retail STAR database for order fulfillment.
